Why Coffee?

It started with strolls in the coffee and tea fields of Kenya and continued to a corner cafe in a tiny South African village…and it has come back with us to bustling Enterprise, Alabama. Our love of coffee really boils down to a deep-seated love of people and community. And we can’t wait to gather around a good cuppa and get to know you better!

Our short video will give you an overview of what inspired Coffee Corner, and you can continue reading below for more details and photos!

Kenya taught us to love coffee.

Before we moved to Africa, coffee was something you sipped after church on Sunday…and whatever came out of the community pot was just fine with enough cream and sugar. Beyond that, our knowledge of coffee ran only to “caf” and “decaf.” Living in Kenya for three years, visiting its breathtaking coffee farms, and meeting growers opened up a brand new world to us—and we are forever thankful. Some of the finest coffees in the world come from Kenyan growers, and our cafe will feature a blend made especially for us in Headland, using ethically sourced Kenyan beans.

It’s about community.

Just like Europe, Africa has a wonderful cafe culture that extends throughout the continent. Whether you drive from village to village through the wilds of Sudan or sit with neighbors on a long stoep in South Africa, you can expect people to gather around a pot of tea or brew a rich cup of coffee. It’s all a part of the hospitality that binds people together. During the eight years we lived in two African countries and traveled in many more, we learned to adore the lingering moments shared with friends old and new over a steaming cup. We hope to recreate this same welcome at Coffee Corner and invite you to stay for a while, invite a friend, and enjoy watching Enterprise’s bustling downtown life. PS - We will have drink specials for kids, too!

Now, more than ever, we need each other.

Living in Africa taught us how interconnected we are as human beings and how much we need one another. Living through 2020, I think we have all come to see just how crucial community is and how important it is to support small, local businesses. Coffee Corner is committed to serving Enterprise and sourcing everything we can from within our county and state. Our coffee is roasted in Headland, and our unique tea blends come from Lunation, just down Main Street. Our beautiful hand-thrown mugs are crafted with care by Pottery1018 (and you can join our Early Risers Club to get your own and a 20% lifetime discount when you reuse it!). As part owners of a cafe and bar in South Africa, we learned first-hand that a rising tide truly floats all boats. When businesses support each other, everyone thrives. That is our goal at Coffee Corner, and we are committed to seeing Enterprise grow and downtown remain the delightful hub of hospitality that it is.

A portion of our profits will go to support disabled veterans in Coffee County. Fort Novosel is in our back yard and has been a part of our family history since it was Camp Rucker. Our grandfathers served in WW2 and Korea, and we grew up around military men and women and want to honor them for their sacrifices for our country. We also offer a 10% cafe discount for all first responders, police, and active military members. Thank you for your service!
